University of Minnesota College of Education & Human Development
Licensure and Leadership Development - Dedicated to the Preparation of Educational Administrators
Organizational Framework
The Licensure and Leadership Development Program for Educational Administrators is a component of the Educational Administration Program within the Department of Educational Policy and Administration (EdPA).  The Department of Educational Policy and Administration is in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD).  Persons enrolled in the licensure program are prepared for one or more of four licensure areas including school superintendent, K-12 principal, director of special education and director of community education.  Under the K-12 principal license the learners may specialize in either general K-12 schools or alternative settings including area learning centers (ALCs) or charter schools.

The Licensure and Leadership Development web site is our primary source for providing written information to prospective and current students.  The site provides students with general information regarding the implementation of the licensure program as well as application procedures and forms and the licensure program checklist [PDF file], which provides a summary of the procedures required of licensure candidates.

In 1997 the EdPA department made a decision to redesign its licensure program.  This was fueled by the change in licensure rules that went into effect on January 1, 1997.  The University of Minnesota was initially authorized that year to prepare superintendents, K-12 principals and directors of special education.  Later, authorization was given by the MN Department of Children, Families and Learning to prepare individuals for director of community education.  Currently the University of Minnesota enjoys strong enrollment in all four areas.

The Enrollment data, 1999-2004 page is posted on a separate site due to the 3 MB eFolio storage limit and due to the lack of viewing options in eFolio (ex: Graphic Organizer page).
